These questions and answers are offered by the New Jersey Hospice and Palliative Care Organization to provide advice to patients and families considering hospice care, or who have already been admitted to hospice care.  While each hospice agency has its own set of rules and policies, all New Jersey hospices must satisfy the Medicare Hospice Benefit Conditions of Participation and the State of New Jersey’s laws regarding hospice care and related matters.

The advice given below reflects general practice among hospices in New Jersey – however, the final decisions regarding care of a patient and family are the responsibility of the hospice providing care.
